Prevention starts in everyday life: What Switzerland thinks about health

For many people in Switzerland, health, well-being, and maintaining their own quality of life are at the center of healthcare. The current Prevention Radar Switzerland 2025 shows that prevention is important to the population, but is mainly implemented when it fits easily into everyday life and provides a direct benefit.
The representative study by the Sanitas Health Insurance Foundation, conducted by intervista AG, examines attitudes and behavior regarding prevention, exercise, and nutrition. A total of 2,064 people between the ages of 18 and 74 from all language regions of Switzerland were surveyed.
Growing older healthily instead of simply living longer
For the Swiss population, healthy aging is what counts most. Around 80 percent prefer a healthy life in old age to living as long as possible. The "longevity" trend – i.e., simply extending the lifespan – is therefore less crucial than maintaining long-term health and quality of life.
For personal healthcare, this means that small, consistent changes in everyday life are often more valuable than short-term trends. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and conscious stress management are important building blocks of sustainable prevention.
Exercise: Everyday life is the deciding factor
The study shows that Switzerland is generally active and many people meet the exercise recommendations. Nevertheless, integrating exercise into work and family life remains a challenge, especially in middle age. Common obstacles include lack of time, lack of motivation, or professional obligations.
An important step does not always have to be intensive sports. More movement in everyday life – such as walks, cycling, or active breaks – already helps to realistically achieve health goals.
Nutrition: Comparing self-image and reality
The Prevention Radar also provides interesting findings on the topic of nutrition: A large majority of respondents consider their own diet to be healthy. At the same time, the data shows that there is often still room for improvement in various food groups – such as the consumption of fruit, vegetables, or nuts.
For personal healthcare, a sound assessment is worthwhile at this point, because subjective assessment often deviates from actual nutrient supply. To find out whether your daily diet really provides your body with all essential nutrients, objective data is a valuable tool. A preventive check-up makes the individual health status visible and shows in black and white whether the organism is optimally supplied or whether unnoticed gaps exist.
Responsibility in healthcare: Actively shaping your own health
The Prevention Radar Switzerland 2025 illustrates that around 80 percent of the population are convinced they bear the greatest responsibility for their own health. Employers, the state, and other stakeholders are primarily seen as having a shared responsibility. This strong awareness of personal responsibility reflects the desire to significantly control personal well-being through a conscious lifestyle. Successful prevention ultimately succeeds through interaction: Personal initiative forms the foundation, but is ideally supported by sensible framework conditions.
Specifically strengthening prevention with knowledge
Healthcare begins with the right information and a reliable data basis. Anyone who wants to actively take responsibility for their health benefits significantly from recognizing risk factors early on.
At PrevCheck, you will find professional health checks that allow you to easily review your most important biomarkers – from vitamins and minerals to metabolic values. Such a check-up offers you certainty about your current state of health and makes risks visible before they lead to complaints. This gives you a solid foundation for making sound and data-based decisions for your long-term quality of life.
Conclusion: The Prevention Radar Switzerland 2025 makes it clear: Prevention does not have to be complicated. The decisive factors are everyday measures and objective knowledge about your own body, which contribute to more well-being and health in the long term.
